Wedding Detox

3 Oct

Well it has been over 3 months since our big day! And I can finally
talk about weddings again! As someone who was more obsessed with
wedding planning than is considered healthy, I needed a break. After
letting every spare inch of my mind be monopolized by to do lists and
timelines, I was literally disgusted by the sight of my planning
binder after the big day. For weeks after my wedding I actually
thought I might not like planning ever again. I literally overdosed on
wedding. I needed a detox. Slowly I remembered how to actually have a
conversation with my husband about something besides
chalkboard paint and RSVPs.

I rediscovered that I love cooking and even started reading actual books instead of wedding blogs.

Oh yeah, and I started to pump out some choreography, just in time since that
is my actual real life job!

It is amazing how much of my mind was crowded with wedding. The process is amazing and wonderful and once in a lifetime, but it’s also over so very quickly.
So here I am, starting fresh with a new sense of balance.  I am falling
back in love with weddings, but with more control. There are some
amazing weddings coming up in my life and I can’t wait to help plan
them! Plus I am working on some miss to bliss excitement! It’s good.
Trust. But all of this is coming from a new (less nutso) more balanced
perspective.

…breathe in….breathe out…

Ok I know this is boring, but I had to get it out! I will get back to
more exciting wedding recaps, advice, inspiration and how to’s next
time! 🙂

Beyond Pinspiration

19 Mar

By now, pretty much everyone ( ok more like every mid-20s to mid-30s
female) is addicted to pinterest. I know, I know me too! It is beyond
popular for wedding planning and inspiration, even among the
un-engaged and the already-married. Everyone making these gorgeous pin
boards of all their fabulous dream wedding details. It is all sorts of
pretty! I jumped into pinterest a little too late in my wedding
planning, so I had to previously find other sources of inspiration. I
am obsessed and in love with all of these sources, so if you are
engaged right now (or secretly/ not so secretly already planning sans
ring or even man for that matter) go on and check em out!

First up, this is really old school, but I am recommending an actual
paper and ink book! The Wedding Book. One of my bridesmaids and bestest friends used this book planning her wedding and gave me a copy as an engagement present. It has all the rules and answers to the etiquette questions, but also totally encourages you to throw the rules out the window.

Next is my wedding planning bible, my resource for all things pretty,
and the wedding blog gateway drug that led me to all the rest featured
here. If you don’t  look at this yet, get on it…. Style Me Pretty

For all things DIY including detailed how-to’s check out Wedding Bee

My new go to combines the pretty of gorgeous real wedding photos with
fab DIY templates Wedding Chicks. You can also follow them on pinterest if you can’t bear to tear yourself away.

If you like a slightly more hipster wedding check out Green Wedding Shoes

If you are Philly local check out The Fab Bride

Some other goodies to look into are Ruffled Bog, Snippet and Ink, 100 layer Cake, Grey Likes Weddings, and Once Wed

If you want to go the more traditional route Martha Stewart Weddings
is always great, and of course everyone knows about The Knot
Small word to the wise about the knot… If you are not yet engaged
but live with your significant other I do NOT suggest signing up for
this one! I made this mistake and suddenly started getting so many
wedding related mailings! I was racing home to throw them out
everyday, while my then boyfriend, who had already purchased my ring was doing the same thing because he was convinced the jeweler had sold our contact info! Haha getting postcards from DJs saying congrats on your engagement when you aren’t actually engaged can be a little awkward…

With all this beautiful photography floating around I would be crazy not to also mention our photographers’ blogs! For engagement photography we used Jeff Benzon Photography check out his website and blog. The day of our wedding will be captured by Mike Smith from Ash Imagery, check out his website and blog too! Good stuff!

Anyways, one more reason I love all these resources better than pinning… You can keep all your ideas to yourself!! You so sneakkkkyy! You know how pins spread like wildfire on there and suddenly that awesome little detail is so overdone!?! This way you can save the ideas yourself (I made separate folders for different aspects i.e. flowers, food, attire) and be a greedy little bride by not sharing them with your friends! Who wants to go to the same exact modern-succulent-chevron striped-grey and yellow wedding 5 times every season anyways?! Pick what you like and not what everyone else is being pin-spired by and the day will come to life!

Happy Planning 🙂

Where Ya Been!?!

3 Feb

So I know it has been forever since I actually updated this. And OBVS you all are checking this all day  just waiting to read my every word. Ok, I think that only applies to my Mom, and even then my ego might still be over-inflated… So here is my triumphant return to blogging…sort of.

Anyways, I haven’t been writing because I have been actually DOING things for the wedding! Little known fact about wedding planning… planning, fantasizing, imagining, blog stalking, and pinning are all good and fabulous fun….actually making decisions and dealing with logistical details of planning a wedding is significantly less fun. With that said, I still super love weddings and can’t wait for ours. We are under the 5 month mark now and time is flying. (NOTE to SELF-might be a good idea to start that arm workout u’ve been “thinking” about since the day he jammed that rock onto your chubby little sausage finger)

SO what the heck have we gotten done?? Well we have set up our wedding website (props to the hubs-to-be on that one!), booked our hotel block, registered (we used Amazon its amaze, but more on that another time), bought supplies and started making custom table runners, finalized our guest list, designed our stations menu, had our menu tasting, had our cake tasting, designed our invitations, bought all supplies for DIYing the invites, finished collecting vintage bottles for our center pieces, had my first dress fitting, found outfit options for the mens, did the prelim flower selection, bought me some fab sparkly shoes

ANNNDD did this super fun and easy DIY project…. A  gold framed Chalkboard Seating Chart!

OK, I thought this was the most genius idea I’ve ever had, and NOW its all over like every gosh darned wed blog….sweet…anyways I still love it!

We found this creepy-ness at “Good Deals” a total junk shop in Wilmington, DE. I say junk shop with all love, because it is ridic and quirky and the the best for the most random finds!

We then bought some chalk board spray paint at Home Depot and went to town. It was pretty fun and took max 40mins (including the waiting time between coats). You’ll have to wait to see the real deal, but here are some similar ideas from the bloggy worlds

Cuteness right? Anyone with fab handwriting want to come write everyones names for me???

DIY Project #1

28 Oct

I love love love personalization, especially when it comes to weddings! I think it is what makes or breaks a good wedding. Did you leave feeling like the event really reflected the couple and that they put their own touch on it? If the answer is yes, it’s pretty hard to have a bad time (open bar aside). So, I have chosen to DIY a LOT of our wedding projects! Like scary, I think I might have a panic attack clutching my hot glue gun at 3am kind of a lot. BUT I know it’s going to turn out gooorg (I’m a bit of a control freak perfectionist, great assests in a DIYer).  So, I am going to start sharing some of our projects with you!

First up is the bridesmaid invites I made for my lovely ladies! I did find this idea here, so don’t start thinking I’m some sort of paper craft genius! I did mine a little bit different than theirs, but I was really happy with how they turned out!

Here is what you need:

Roll of bulletin board paper. Card stock in the colors of your gals’ dresses. Card stock in the colors of their hair. Blank printable cards (with envelopes). Ribbon. Scissors. glue stick. pencil. markers. pen.

Here are some step by step photos…(please excuse the iPhone pics)

*Sorry I didn’t include a picture of the actual card on the bottom there; I don’t really want to be blasting all my wedding details on the internets. All it said was Will you be my bridesmaid? Then had a little wedding announcement with our names, the date and address of our venue and then a little personal note from me about how excited I am for them to share the day with me!*

Aren’t they just the cutest!?!  I waited a long time after getting engaged to ask my maids, so they were all totally surprised, which is a major plus!! I am not great at drawing but the girls were pretty simple to sketch. The worst of it all is cutting out those tiny little hair styles, but I think having them accurate to your girls makes it just that much cuter! This project can definitely be time consuming, but being a bridesmaid can be a big commitment, so you should start things off on the right foot by putting in the extra special effort for them! Plus, they are your best friends, so I am sure you love them and love the idea of them smiling when they open up something so totally adorable!

There’s a marriage at our wedding?!

18 Oct

The fiance and I are at that time in our lives when seemingly everyone around us is planning a wedding, in a wedding, getting engaged, plotting how to propose or plotting how to convince their significant other to “put a ring on it”.

This all means we have been to a ton of weddings recently and have a ton more coming up. With so much chatter about all the wedding details, which trust me I forreals love more than the next gal, it is crazy that at the end of all that partaay plannin that you are getting MARRIED! Say what?! You forgot about that part too??! Glad I’m not the only one! 😉 j/k…sort of…

We have been to a few weddings (and of course their accompanying kick booty receptions) that have helped me remember this…Everyone remember Hurricane Irene?!? We went to a wedding right smack in the middle of that crazy storm! In the days leading up to the wedding while everyone was out stocking up on water, batteries and essentials (obvs this includes wine and oreos) all I could think about was how upset I would be if a Hurricane was plowing through my gorgeous,  carefully planned, diy detail obsessed, breezy, vintage chic,  peach and navy blue wedding!! Seriously, I thought there could be nothing worse. Day of the wedding, we get a message saying the location of the ceremony had been moved from the church the couple had selected to their reception venue. While I was happy, as a guest, that we didn’t have to drive in the middle of the storm to get from ceremony to reception I couldn’t stop thinking of how a major change like that could feel for a bride! They ended up having the ceremony in the same room as the reception and had everyone sit at their dinner tables instead of the church pews. Then we all exited to a lobby area for the cocktail hour while they broke down the ceremony set up and got everything back together for the reception. The whole thing ended up being beautiful and we seriously tore up the dance floor all night! But I have to say, I am sure this is not exactly how the bride imagined her wedding ceremony. BUT you know what?? They still got MARRIED! Like who cares that it didn’t happen in some gorgeous church, or if the seating wasn’t as planned, or the most adorable little flower girls walked right past the little set up aisle. At the end of it they still got married, and none of the other nonsense even mattered! As someone who was deep in the planning trenches at the time, it was quite a smack in the face to put down my color swatch inspiration board and think about my upcoming MARRIAGE! So, now not only am I plaguing my future hubby with questions about whether he thinks garden roses are prettier than dahlias, but I am also taking the time to talk with him about the future of our married relationship. How are things going to change (beyond our facebook statuses) and how are we going to deal with different challenges? As excited as I am that I think we have the most perfect photographer in the world and the prettiest venue, I have been reminded that I am even more lucky because I have actually found someone really awesome to spend my life with.

(OK sappy I know, you can gag now….)

From Miss to Wedded Bliss

30 Aug

Hi wedding bloggy beauties! I have been saying I would do this for a loooong time so here goes! Anyone who knows me knows I have been wedding planning obsessed for basically foreva…like way before my fiance even thought about proposing (lucky him, right?!). I have seen so much prettiness along the way, and wanted a place to pull all that is DIY, personalized, natural, lovey dovey and just plain old GORGeous together as I try to navigate my way “from miss to bliss.”  Considering I have been searching for this goodness for so long, please excuse my current lack of photo credits, promise I’ll be better about that as we move along! I have been trying so hard to “define” my wedding style; I find photos do a much better job than words for me. I keep a giant *lunatic* binder filled with all my inspiration pics (umm who doesn’t?…more on this later). So, to get rolling here are some of my favs for inspiration right now…
